Rolf is a mapper of Saxon Switzerland. His beautiful handmade maps are a must–have for every hiker in that region. Böhm lives in Bad Schandau for more than 20 years and has spent over 650 nights of his life out there in the woods. “In the past we wouldn't count the kilometers we've been hiking. All we knew was, whether the trail was one day long or less. Nowadays we count the kilometers – I feel like we are missing out the magic behind getting lost in the woods.“
I visited Rolf at his house, which is close to the stream Kirnitzsch. He showed me how to enter details into handmade maps. I then asked him to read out loud the tale of the Barbarine, a fabulous rock formation in Saxon Switzerland.
